Hi, my name is Sasha and I am a wildlife, equine and pet portrait artist living on Salt Spring Island BC Canada. My portraits celebrate the beauty and soul of my subjects. I work from photographs to create a portrait of your cat, dog or horse that captures that special spark in their eye. The end result is a long-lasting artwork that you can hang proudly in your home.

My process takes time, patience and
All my coloured pencil projects are drawn on the most luxurious and archival paper such as Pastelmat, Fabriano Artistico and Strathmore. Below I demonstrate the time and steps I take to create my works.
After studying my reference images and sketching my lines, I always start with the eyes as they immediately give soul to the animal I am drawing and insipre me to spend the countless hours with them.
Once the soulful eyes are there to guide and inspire, framing with ears and beginning the process of covering my subject with fur is next.
The next part takes patience and concentration as I make sure to follow the fur direction in all sections of the face and make sure I depict the nose as realistically as possible.
Once most of the face has been covered in fur the fluffiness and depth of the collar, beard and whiskers are what comes next. Finishing the piece with carefully placed highlights, shadows and love.
Below we have some of my most recent wildlife projects. These unique pieces have been created using coloured pencils on Strathmore and Fabriano Artistico Traditional Watercolor Paper
Pride took 16 hours to finish, and was a joy to work on, as my love for big cats and wanting to challenge my patience with fur came together to birth this great piece.
Foxy Lady took 14 hours to complete. This piece was a study where I tried to improve my abilty to capture the depth and realism of different types and lengths of fur.
Tiger Style took 14 hours to complete. Siberian tigers are by far my favorite animal to draw. They always make it so I am sad when my drawing is complete, as all I want is to stay lost in that other world drawing these vibrant colours.
Hoppy took 12 hours to complete. Bunnies are an absolute joy to draw, I enjoyed evey moment of this challenge.
Choupette took 33 hours to complete. This portrait commission took so long because the order was for a full size 12'x15.5" on pastelmat. This was so far my most challenging and most satisfying piece to date.
